Nylon 6 chips (CAS No. 25038-54-4), with repeating unit –[NH–(CH₂)₅–CO]–ₙ, are soluble in phenol and concentrated sulfuric acid. They offer good electrical insulation, strong abrasion resistance, and good resistance to alkalis and many chemicals. Nylon 6 can be spun into textile yarns for underwear, socks and shirts, and industrial yarns for tire cord, canvas, parachutes, insulation materials, fishing nets and seat belts.
